Mid July saw a select group of IMC members attending a new meet at Corrour Station Bunkhouse,
the highest , most remote station on the British Rail network (1338ft)-apparently! (Does British Rail
still exist?) The bunkhouse is situated in the middle of the North and South rail tracks and the common room,
once the signal room has 360 degree views over Rannoch Moor. A room with a view! Alberts
complimentary bottle of port and individual hot water bottles supplied by the bunkhouse provided
usual IMC luxury conditions.
Good weather on Saturday, Pete visited Peter’s Stone, with Ewen, Marion, Ian & Sharon who went
on to Carn Dearg and Sgor Gaibhre. Ian escaped to get the last train back, not wanting to miss a
Saturday evening in Inverness. The others continued to Sgor Choinnich. Albert and Elizabeth did
the route in reverse and Sharon continued to Beinn a Chumhiann and Bealach Dubh.
The luxury was continued on Saturday evening with endless food and wine. We talked of daring
deeds, but nobody rose to the challenge of running round Loch Ossian in under an hour. Sharon
swears she saw fireworks too, but each time she cried “look, over there” nothing could be seen!
On Sunday some headed for Leum Uilleim and Beinn a Bhric and slept in the sunshine, whilst
others raced up Beinn na lap before the last train home. An excellent meet, sure to be repeated –
looks good in winter
and great for ski
mountaineering too!
