Despite it being the end of April, we awoke on Saturday to a complete covering of snow surrounding our base of Strawberry Cottage. Over breakfast, and in keeping with the snowy scene, Robin enthralled us with the story of his encounter with a big white bear the previous night. Outside, where the snow was starting to disappear fast, we decided to head for higher ground in search of tracks where the snow still lay. Peter, Marion, Albert and Elizabeth took the south side of the glen, the Sgurr nan Conbhairean group, while Sharon, Joanne, Robin and Colin headed west for Sgurr nan Ceathreamhnnan with David and Peter L tackling the north - Mam Sodhail, Carn Eighe and Beinn Fhionnlaidh. Ewen departed later, bravely alone, to search An Socach while Barry W
stayed put to guard the base.
Despite the cloudy start the sun quickly appeared and it seems the bear disappeared just as quickly. Still, a good day was had by all, as evidenced by the tales over food and wine that evening. Robin also let slip the fact that the bear had only been in his dreams!
It was always going to be difficult to sustain that level of excitement and effort so once Sunday dawned cold and wet we all went home!
