The last weekend in April saw a full house of twelve IMC members at this comfortable venue which is one of the few traditional club huts left ungentrified, perhaps because it belongs to the Ladies Scottish Climbing Club. At least it’s got a flushing loo now. The long lay-off due to FMD led to a few cancelled meets, and increased enthusiasm for a return to the hills. Most chose Buachaille Etive Mor on Saturday, with a select group of Pete, Marion and Ewen heading for the Blackmount. Unfortunately many other select groups had the same idea and the path off Stob Ghabhar resembled a motorway, but a diversion to a little-frequented ridge saved the day.
Many tall tales were told in the hut on Saturday night, and ample supplies of good food and drink meant that none were tempted to visit the Kingshouse – although certain people did on Friday night and neglected to leave a key under the usual obvious stone, leaving certain other people waiting in the cold outside the hut.
Despite good weather throughout the weekend, Sunday was a less ambitious day for most. The larger party headed for the undemanding but pleasant Beinn Trilleachan, making it more demanding by coming off the West ridge and walking back along Loch Etive. Colin and Joanne had such a long day on Ben Starav and outliers that they were too late or knackered to join the others in the Invergarry Hotel, which was discovered to have good food and real ale, and is highly recommended.
